2008/09 Week 31

Following a successful Champions League week for English clubs domestic duties once again take centre stage with the biggest game of the weekend at Old Trafford with Liverpool the visitors. Liverpool were the more impressive in mid-week and claimed a win in the first game this season, yet they have a poor record at Old Trafford and the odds give too much respect for the away team. It will be a full strength United team eager to put their rivals in their place, and Liverpool’s need for all three points will ultimately be their downfall. Odds of 1.99 with Pinnacle are too large and stake 3pts.

In the Championship we will be opposing the best home record in the division and siding with Coventry to get a result at Preston. The home team have had very mixed results as a result of a squad lacking depth suffering from injury and suspension. Coventry are an enigma with a better record against top-half sides than against the bottom-half, and as such are consistently under-priced in such fixtures. The best level to back the Sky Blues is on the Coventry +0.5 market at 2.06 with Pinnacle. This is equivalent to laying Preston and is at more advantageous odds than exchanges when commission is added so have 2pts.

Without wishing to sound like a broken record we will again use correct score markets to oppose goals in games involving Birmingham. In their game against Doncaster stake 0.33pt on No Goal-scorer at 9.5 (Will Hill, VC) and 0.33pt on 1-0 and 0-1 at 8.5 both with IASBet.

League One throws up two interesting away teams worthy of our money. Southend are the form team in the league since Lee Barnard returned from injury, and they look under-rated for victory against a Hereford side that has the worst record when conceding first. Side with Southend’s firepower at 2.42 Pinnacle or 2.4 Centrebet to the tune of 1.5pt. Cheltenham are in turmoil having lost eight of nine and are winless at home in 2009. With the club very close to entering administration and losing ten points it is apparent that they are very opposable for the remainder of the campaign. Hartlepool are a very average League One outfit but should be shorter than 2.4. Have 2pts with Coral.
