October Tipping Comp

Postby Tipping Ace » Wed Sep 30, 2009 11:34 pm

Hello and welcome to the October Tipping competition.

Rules are as follows. There will be 3 stages with 1/3 of the original competitors being culled at each stage. Culling will take place based on those missing the turnover being culled first followed by those with the lowest balance. Zero balances are eligible to proceed to the next round if they have met the turnover requirement. In the case of ties all competitors on the same amount will proceed to the next step. In the case of ties for 1st or 2nd then those with the highest turnover will be deemed the winner.

Stage 1 will run from the 1st to the 14th,
Stage 2 will run from the 15th to the 21st, and
Stage 3 will run from the 22nd to the 28th.

Betting will close 20 minutes before the advertised race time. Note that the forum software will cutoff the betting automatically at the appropriate time TO THE SECOND. You may edit and change your bets after they have been placed right up to the cutoff time.

Stage 1 rules. Your starting bank is $8,000. Max bet of $500. Your max bet may be split win only, place only, or win and place. However the total must not exceed $500. Maximum of 4 runners bet per race. Turnover requirement is $10,000. You may bet as much as you like, you are not restricted to only $10,000.

Stage 2 rules. Your starting bank is $16,000. Max bet of $2000. Your max bet may be split win only, place only, or win and place. However the total must not exceed $2,000. Maximum of 4 runners bet per race. Turnover requirement is $20,000. You may bet as much as you like, you are not restricted to only $20,000.

State 3 rules. Starting bank of $40,000 and turnover requirement of $50,000. Maximum bet of $5,000 and maximum of 4 runners per race. Other rules as per stages 1 and 2.

There will be one race per day most days, although occasionally there will be two races on a given day. To place your bets each day, simply click the "My Picks" button at the top of each race. You can see other competitors picks by clicking on their name on the Tipster Table (which is the 2nd post on this thread).

Scratchings: Scratchings will not count for turnover at any stage. It is the competitor's responsibility to manage their turnover. We advise that competitors meet their turnover requirement as early as possible. If betting on the final day to meet turnover be aware that a late scratching may occur which could affect the turnover eligibility.

Discrepancies: In any discrepancy between TAB number and horse name, the TAB number is the more important. If it does happen that the tab numbers and names are mixed up, the results will be awarded to the TAB number and not the horse name.

This tournament is open for new competitors up to and including the 7th. After that date the tournament will be closed and only existing competitors who have had a bet will be eligible to continue betting.

NOTE: Given that we're heading into the winter months I will not be making any effort to avoid the wet tracks. The best (or most interesting) race of the day will be it - rain, hail or shine.

Good Luck,
Tipping Ace.

PS. Tipping Ace is not counted as a competitor in these competitions. The 1/3 to be cut is calculated without Tipping Ace in the field and Tipping Ace is ineligible to be considered as a prize earner in any of the stages.

Stage 3

This post contains the races upon which to bet. Each race will be listed as a separate table. You make your picks by clicking on the "My Picks" button at the top right of each race. You can edit your picks by clicking on the same button.

Note: the tipping software automatically closes betting at the exact time specified. There is no capability to accept bets after this time.

Note that once more races are added, there will be an inner scroll bar which will allow you access to the additional races. The two scroll bars can be a little confusing but with a little practice you will be able to use them both effectively.

Hi Tipping Ace - don't want to pre-empt or anything, but any chance of two races tomorrow, Geelong Cup day? Obviously the Geelong Cup is a good one... could we have a 2nd race?*

*request has nothing at all to do with the fact that I have been away and therefore haven't been putting my bets in, and therefore need a 2nd race to get the turnover qualification. Nothing at all to do with that.

Well, given you're a Kiwi you probably want me to ask Tipping Ace for a flagon of petrol to have with your dinner. However, my biggest problem is I am going to need a line of credit to make the turnover requirement... I have $8,000 to bet with, I need to turn over $12,000. Thanks to my inability to find the winner in 4 at Cessnock today, I have run out of available ammunition.

However, the races don't get resulted until after the day has finished, which means if I back the winner of the Classic, I won't be able to get back on for the Cup.

Therefore, I propose this: I will put my bets on for the Classic, and I will post in the morning with what my bets will be for the Cup, ASSUMING that I have the funds to place them!! So, I will outlay my $8,000 on the Classic, and assuming I get the winner I will list $8,000 worth of bets for the Cup, getting me over the line from a turnover point of view!!

Whether this is an acceptable state of affairs, I leave in the hands of the very generous and accommodating, and of course very understanding, wonderful, Tipping Ace. :)

Hi Duritz.

why do so many people in these comps have trouble meeting the turnover requirements.

I'm sorry Duritz but I'm going to have to decline the posting of bets on the forum. Whenever people have asked in the past (and quite a number have on PM) I have always declined. It is actually quite a mess to circumvent the software in this way.

There is a small chance that I might be able to result the first event in time for you to make some selections in the 2nd event but I cannot guarantee that.

Good Luck,
Tipping Ace.

Tipping Ace - that would be fine in normal circs, but I am going to the Geelong Cup tomorrow to watch Barry's Kiwi's quinella it, and as a result have no hope of putting them in.

It's not of any consequence, so thanks anyway.

Purro - I don't know the answer to your question for others. This is the first time I have failed to meet those conditions, and the reason is because I was away on a 3 day golf trip , rendering me incapable for all of those three days as well as the next couple afterwards.
