Australia v Ireland – Super 8 Match
They just win tonight, the Aussies, the question is just by how many. The next question is when will the other Mr Cricket actually chip in with some runs? It’s about time Mike Hussey ‘came to the party’ to coin a phrase of practically anyone involved in cricket these days when they are calling for someone to perform better. There’s talk that Gilchrist will be rested tonight and I think this will give Hussey an opportunity at the top of the order. You can back him at 8/1 at the TAB or Betchoice but don’t get carried away, these sorts of bets are fraught with danger. I have a strong feeling that he will be promoted, if not to open then to first drop, but if that feeling is wrong then you’ve probably done your dough cold. If he were to open he’d be $3.00 - $4.00 depending on the match situation, first drop and he’d be $4.50 - $6.00, number 6 and he’s about 40s. A quick mathematical equation, based on my guess at his likelihood of batting in each position, and I think he’s a 4/1 poke. The 8s is nice, if we knew he was gonna open we’d absolutely drill it, but we’ll just have 1 pt and hide behind the sofa when the openers make their way to the crease.
Mike Hussey top Australia Run Scorer, 1 pt $9.00: ACT/NSW TAB; BetChoice.
It doesn’t take Nostre Damus to predict a top order collapse for the Irish tonight, and I think the middle order are the guys we should look to to top score tonight. The two selections are Andrew White and Trent Johnston both at 14/1. Both can hold a bat and both are hitters, often it is this sort of approach that fairs better when you are totally outclassed by your opposition. Quite frankly picking a top bat winner in these matches is a bit of a lottery, but if you keep playing the lottery with the odds in your favour you should end up winning. We’ll have half a point on each and watch Shaun Tait rip through de Irish like a knife through Guiness. If you’re really bored, get the TAB and Betchoice’s Hi Bat markets up and play spot the difference. It’s often annoying when companies blatantly copy each other, but in this instance it’s useful as it gives us another outlet. I’ll leave it up to you who the copycat is for today’s three bets.

Trent Johnston top Ireland Run Scorer, ½ pt $15.00: ACT/NSW TAB; BetChoice.
